This is a short introductory walk in Fred Crabtree Park
to help you get acquainted with the Park. The walk only covers a small portion
of the park. There are few unique landmarks and it is quite easy to walk in
circles so it is important to pay close attention to the directions.
- The walk starts at the end of the park access road
next to the soccer field. Take the path into the woods here and turn right
at the split just inside the woods.
- A path intersects form the left. Keep straight on the
current path. A path leading from the soccer field intersects from the right.
Stay on the current path as it turns to the left and climbs a short hill.
Look to the right later to view Little Difficult Run down below.
- Turn left at the next path split. You should be able
to see a bridge in the distance (see photo).
- The path crosses the bridge. Turn right on the other
side of the bridge to follow a small stream for a very short distance. Turn
left at the next intersecting trail and climb the hill away from the stream.
- A path intersects from the right. Continue straight
on the present path.
- Turn left at the next path split. Both paths rejoin
later.
- A path intersects from the right. This is the other
path that split off. Continue straight on the present path.
- A path intersects from the left. Continue straight
on the present path.
- The path crosses a usually dry gully. Just after the
gully the path splits. Take the path to the left and climb the gradual hill.
- A path intersects from the left. Turn left and follow
the path down the hill.
- The path crosses another usually dry gully. It then
climbs the hill on the other side.
- A path intersects from the right. Continue straight
on the present path as it turns gradually to the left to follow the stream
below.
- A path intersects from the left. Continue straight
on the present path as it follows the stream. You should notice ferns in
this area.
- A bridge appears on the right. Turn right to cross
the stream on this bridge.
- A path intersects from the right. Continue straight
on the present path as it climbs a hill.
- Turn right at the next intersecting trail.
- A trail intersects from the right just before leaving
the woods. Keep left to leave the woods and return to the parking area.
