Trail on Monroe St. from East Park Dr. to existing trail over Dulles Toll Road.

465 foot trail connecting existing paved walkways on western side of Monroe St.

Provides connectivity - High

This trail will provide connectivity over the Dulles Toll Road without crossing ramps to Toll Road. Most of the other connections over the Toll Road (Centreville Rd. Fairfax County Parkway, Reston Parkway, Wiehle Avenue) must cross ramps to the Dulles Toll Road creating hazardous crossings for pedestrians and bicyclists. This is one of a few connections over the Toll Road that do not face hazardous conditions. It is already getting considerable use by bicyclists even though the proposed section is unpaved.

Improves Safety - High

Bicyclists going north are using the southbound right turn lane to remain on a paved surface.

Provides Access - High

This provides Herndon residents with a safe means to walk or bicycle to the Herndon - Monroe Transit Station. It also permits residents in Fairfax County to safely reach destinations in Herndon. It was requested by Fairfax County residents.

Provides Recreational Opportunities - Medium

This provides connectivity to Stratton Woods Park via local sidewalks.

Supported by Community - High

Pavement of this section was requested by the community..

Is It Feasible to Build - High

Construction will take place on flat land. There will be a need to relocate some utilities.

Countywide Trails Plan

Trails plan shows trail on eastern side of Monroe St. However pedestrian bridge over the Dulles Toll Road is on the west side. It makes no sense to place the trail on the eastern side of Monroe St.
